Welcome to DingX! DingX is a sound visualization engine for Flash Actionscript 3 and above. The platform currently supports both 2D and 3D visualizations, and offers a whole range of customizability and transition between visualizations. DingX is powered by the powerful Papervision3D engine and Flint particle system. An example of DingX can be found in the navigation bar.
Why use DingX?
Because all you need to implement a reasonable visualization is 3 lines of code. Visualizations are modular and based on Object-Orientated programming (OOP), meaning that you DO NOT need to import custom graphics / do any editing to your actual .fla document! Wow!
How do you use DingX?
See the section “getting started” for more details.
What can DingX do?
See the “examples” page for more details and included examples.
What packages does DingX need to function?
The Papervision3D and Flint particle system engines. Don’t worry, they are all based on AS3. And of course, Adobe Flash.
Why is DingX named DingX?
That’s easy. Because DingX relies on music, hence ding-ding-ding! Thus Ding! X stands for extraordinary. (DingX needs an X to work =P)
I love to contribute to DingX! How can I do so?
Check out the SVN in the SVN section. Alternatively, you can message (PM) me on my blog’s tagboard located at http://www.joeltong.org/blog/. Do PM me if you do wish to integrate your visualization with the DingX framework, or have an idea of a new visualization!
One more question, who exactly am I?
Good question! I am Joel Tong, a.k.a. Tong Haowen Joel. Web designer / developer, guitarist, tennis player. And I specialize in AS3 development! (I contribute on the Kirupa forum.) Haha. Well, on a sidenote, I hail from Singapore, just finished my A levels this year, awaiting to be drafted into the army (National Service) soon. You can contact me at me [at] joeltong [dot] org. Yup!
